The next version of the 2024 BMW 7 Series seems to be continuing with an electric version called the i7. 2024 BMW 7 Series Specs
The original specifications haven’t been released yet, but BMW has confirmed that the battery-powered i7 will be the most powerful member of the 7 Series portfolio. In confirmation that the 2024 BMW 7 Series will offer around 305 miles of driving range according to the company.
A petrol-fueled engine will also be available for buyers who aren’t interested in going electric though don’t expect a V12-powered range-topper.

Design of the new BMW 7 Series and i7
Admit it, you finally got used to BMW’s big grille, didn’t you? Well, now you have to understand BMW’s latest polarizing design feature; stacked headlights. It features slim daytime running lights above a set of partially recessed main beams that mimic the design of the recently updated BMW X7 SUV.
The rest of the new BMW 7 Series looks pretty conventional. It has the shape of a classic three-box sedan similar to older cars, albeit with fewer folds on the sides and more angular window frames on each side.
The door handles are now flush with the car body, and you can choose from 19 to 21-inch alloy wheels with a new aerodynamic design. The rear of the new 7 Series looks simpler than ever and gives this seventh-generation model the character of an old-school saloon.
The fully electric BMW i7 (top and bottom) looks almost identical to the standard 7 Series, with the exception of a few empty air intakes and a few flashes of bright blue trim. Sure, it doesn’t look as futuristic as the uber-aerodynamic Mercedes EQS electric car, but it doesn’t remind you of a stylish computer mouse with wheels either.
New BMW 7 Series M Sport
The price of the M Sport car starts at £106,805. This sportier version comes with 20-inch wheels as standard and slightly more aggressive front and rear bumpers.
Apart from that, standard equipment remains the same as the Excellence model. However, you do get a steering wheel with a three-spoke flatbed inside, as well as a few different trim options.
The New BMW 7 Series M760e
As a performance model, the M760e gets 21-inch alloy wheels as standard as well as larger exhausts and larger air intakes in the bumper. You’re mainly paying for the added performance (more on this later). This top-of-the-range car costs £117,555.

The big news is that the new 7 and i7 Series get BMW’s latest curved widescreen infotainment system – similar to the ones in the i4 and iX. However, the rest of the BMW 7 Series cabin is fully bespoke. It comes with a minimalist dashboard with hidden air vents, a new steering wheel, and plenty of touch-sensitive buttons under the crystal effects panel on the dashboard and doors.
It looks great, and lets you adjust the temperature controls and heated seats without using complicated on-screen menus.
The new 7 and i7 series are not only filled with technology, they also pack some very luxurious materials. You can get oak and ash trim, stainless steel speaker grilles, crystal glass controls, carbon fiber bits and even cashmere upholstery.
And on top of that (literally) you get a large panoramic glass roof with lighting panels according to the atmosphere.
The new 7 and i7 series will only come as long wheelbase models. This means you’ll get plenty of legroom behind, like it or not.
The new car is actually 1cm longer, nearly 5cm wide, and 5cm taller than the 7 Series with the old wheelbase.
New BMW 7 Series and i7 Theater Screen
Having a large touch screen on the front is one thing. But what if you like to be ushered in behind?
Well, BMW has given the 7 Series and i7 an optional 31-inch 8K display that folds off the roof and stretches all the way to the back seats.
It has a built-in 5G internet connection with Amazon Fire TV, so you can stream movies and make video calls on the go, and you control it using the touchscreen menu or with a dedicated 6-inch touchscreen built into the backdoor.
Your movie will sound as good as it looks because the Series 7 comes with a Bowers & Wilkins stereo system with up to 36 speakers.
New BMW 7 Series engine and performance
The BMW 7 Series will come with 6 different petrol and diesel engines, all equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and some form of the hybrid system.
The rear-wheel drive 735i model uses a turbocharged 3-liter 6-cylinder engine and a mild hybrid system to produce 286 hp. There is also a rear-wheel drive version that is more powerful than the 740i with 380hp.
If you need more power, there’s a 760i 4-wheel-drive that uses a mild hybrid system and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo to produce 544hp. However, none of these cars will be sold in the UK.
Instead, our BMW 7 Series lineup starts with a 4-wheel drive 740d with a straight-6 3-liter twin-turbo diesel engine featuring a mild hybrid system. It produces 300hp and performs 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds
If that doesn’t sound fast enough, there’s also a 750e hybrid 4-wheel-drive. It uses a 310hp 3-liter straight-six petrol engine and a 200hp electric motor to produce 490hp and travels a 0-60mph sprint in 4.9 seconds.
Still not fast enough? You’ll want the M760e hybrid 4-wheel-drive (top and bottom). It uses a 380hp petrol engine from the 740i and adds a 200hp motor from the hybrid 750e to 571hp. That’s enough to launch it from 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds.
The plug-in hybrid 750e and M760e can run about 50 miles on electric power alone, according to the latest WLPT tests.

The new BMW i7 battery and range
There is only one version of the i7 so far. It’s called the i7 xDrive 60. It has a 102kWh battery that gives you a range of up to 388 miles.
That’s about 15 miles less than what you get in a Tesla Model S, and about 65 miles less than what you get in a Mercedes EQS 450+.
The BMW i7 is compatible with 195kW fast charging, which is slightly slower than 200kW in the Mercedes EQS, but enough to give you an additional 106 miles of mileage in about 10 minutes.
New BMW i7 motor and performance
The i7 60 comes with dual motors that produce a combined 544HP. That’s about 20hp more than you get in a Mercedes EQS 580.
This means it will do 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds. That’s a tenth of a second slower than Mercedes, which will do it in 4.3 seconds.
BMW has confirmed it will build a much faster i7 M70. It will have 660hp and 1,000Nm of torque, making it the most powerful BMW road car ever. Expect to do 0-60mph comfortably in under 4 seconds.
Driving the new BMW 7 Series and i7
Every new BMW 7 and i7 Series gets adaptive self-leveling air suspension as standard. This reduces the speed of the car by 10mm to help reduce drag and raise it by 20mm so you don’t scratch the bumper on the steep driveway.
You can also pay extra to get a new car with rear-wheel steering, as in the new Mercedes S-Class and EQS. It rotates the rear wheels by 3.5 degrees to make the car more maneuverable within the city and more stable on the road.
There is also an optional active body control system that uses standard air suspension and some additional electric motors mounted on the anti-roll bar to prevent the body from leaning in narrow corners.
The BMW 7 Series and i7 come with many driver assistance features, including a new adaptive cruise control system that works up to 130 mph. It can accelerate, steer, brake, and change lanes for you, and use GPS data to slow down corners, intersections, and slippery roads.
