2024 Volvo S60

2024 Volvo S60 s a stylish and desirable sedan that delivers a more relaxed driving experience than some of its sportier rivals. Drivers who like to dabble behind the wheel will prefer the BMW 3-series, Genesis G70, or Alfa Romeo Giulia over Volvo’s entry-luxury sedan.

However, buyers who are more interested in a car with a roomy, well-designed interior and lined with rich materials will find the S60 an attractive ride. The standard turbo-four powertrain is too soft for our liking, but the plug-in-hybrid version provides much more powerful acceleration and an electric range of just 22 miles.

The S60 Polestar Engineered is the sportiest model ever, featuring 455 horsepower and other performance-enhancing equipment. The 2024 S60 lineup is backed by high-end standard features and, of course, a plethora of driver assistance technologies—the legacy of Volvo’s long history of safety innovation.

The S60 lineup received a facelift and new infotainment software. Changes in appearance are very subtle, with slight design changes to the front and rear bumpers and several new wheel designs.

Inside, the S60’s large, vertically oriented touchscreen now features a Google-based interface that features new graphics and a different menu structure than its predecessor. Unfortunately, the icons on the screen make it more difficult to operate on the go than in previous versions of the system.

We will opt for the sporty R-Design trim with all-wheel drive. Standard features include front and rear parking sensors, Harman/Kardon audio system, leather upholstery, additional front seat and roll adjustments, power-operated trunk lid, unique exterior trim, and more.

We also recommend the Climate package (heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and heated windshield washer) for anyone who lives in cold weather climates. And the Advanced package is worth the enhanced luxury provided by its 360-degree camera system, an additional 12-volt outlet in the cargo area, a heads-up display, and a semi-autonomous driving mode.

2024 Volvo S60 Review

Volvo’s S60 is a premium compact sedan with a focus on style and comfort. Boasting a beautiful and well-crafted interior, the S60 offers some of the most comfortable and supportive seats in its class as well as some of the best state-of-the-art driver assistance on the market.

2024 Volvo S60

Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with the assistance of a mild hybrid known as the B5 or a plug-in hybrid, known as the T8, with turbo and supercharging on the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

For 2024, Volvo has given the S60 a very subtle exterior styling refresh. The front and rear bumpers reflect most of the changes, but there are also new wheel designs on offer. Inside, the S60 gets Volvo’s latest infotainment system.

Compact in size and engineered by Google, this system is unique in the industry (also owned by Polestar, a Volvo subsidiary) and features excellent voice recognition and an easy-to-use menu structure.

As much as we love the S60, the S60 remains an unusual choice for most buyers who generally stick to the top three in the midsize luxury sedan segment: the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4.

Other options in this segment are the Lexus IS 350, Acura TLX as well as the unusual Alfa Romeo Giulia.

New Volvo S60 2024

The Volvo S60 2024 turns out to be superior to other compact luxury sedans in terms of height, width, and wheelbase, and all this helps the moniker to come out with one of the best overall cabin spaces.

The front seats offer 37.4″ headroom and 42.3″ legroom, both superior to the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series.

Even the back row is nothing to complain about as there is more than enough room for three passengers to sit comfortably. My only complaint is the S60’s slightly protruding transmission tunnel. In terms of cargo space, 11.6 cu ft is quite adequate for its class. However, there is more than enough storage space in the cabin.

2024 Volvo S60 Specs

The S60 from Volvo is a high-end compact sedan with an emphasis on comfort and design. The S60 has a stylish and well-designed cabin, some of the most supportive and comfortable seats in its class, and some of the best modern driving aids available.

2024 Volvo S60

A 2.0-liter B5 turbocharged four-cylinder engine with mild hybrid support or T8, a plug-in hybrid with turbocharging and supercharging on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, provides power.

Volvo has given the S60 a minor external styling update for 2024. Most of the modifications are visible on the front and rear bumpers, although new wheel designs are also available.

The interior of the S60 has Volvo’s latest infotainment system. This system, which is relatively small and designed by Google, is outstanding in its field and has excellent voice recognition in addition to a simple menu system.

The Volvo S60 now includes an infotainment system with Google apps and services. This next-generation infotainment system is intuitive and convenient. It provides consumers with unprecedented customization and connection, further enhanced with the Digital Services plan.

At the heart of the Digital Services plan is access to Google apps and services, which includes hands-free assistance with the Google Assistant, best-in-class navigation via Google Maps, and a wide selection of native in-car apps via Google Play.

Volvo states that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will come as standard features. An optional Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system will also be available.

The S60 will get the more substantial operating system and software upgrades wirelessly starting in the 2024 model year.

2024 Volvo S60 Changes

The Volvo lineup isn’t as big as it used to be. Though few in number, the automaker’s selection of non-SUVs boasts striking designs, beautiful and well-crafted interiors, and impressive technology.

Mild hybrid or plug-in variants are available across the range as Volvo continues to push toward its goal of offering EVs exclusively.

Volvo is implementing several thorough updates to its entire lineup for the 2024 model year. One subtle but meaningful update: Each model receives updated shift logic for the standard eight-speed automatic transmission.

Additionally, the plug-in hybrid Recharge model gets standard single-pedal drive and extended all-electric driving range.

New trim level names were also introduced, with Core, Plus, and Ultimate designating different equipment levels (Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription trims are missing). Cosmetic options have been separated from the trim structure; now consumers can choose a Base, Bright, or Dark themed display for the vehicle’s exterior.

Finally, wireless charging is no longer available on any model. Read on to find out what other updates have been made to the Volvo 2024 lineup.

2024 Volvo S60 Interior

Volvo showcases exceptional build quality in the S60, which favors high-end materials overall and great attention to detail. The design is undeniably forward-thinking and full of developments like gem switchgear and incredibly comfortable seats.

2024 Volvo S60

Its luxury features include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, ambient interior lighting, heads-up display, massaging front seats, and more. Not only are front seat passengers pampered with a comfortable and supportive bucket, but rear seat passengers will also appreciate the ample legroom and headroom.

The interior cubby space is highlighted by useful door pockets and a center console that offers a tray with a retractable lid and a trash can under the armrest, but sadly, all of these storage areas have limited space.

Every S60 features a tablet-style infotainment system that operates via a Google-based interface. While we don’t have one in the sedan yet, we’ve interacted with the version in the compact luxury XC60 SUV, which is a mostly enjoyable experience. T

The system’s native voice assistant worked well, and we appreciated the physical home button at the bottom of the screen and the large volume buttons below.

However, this system—like most systems—does not have a setup button. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are expected to be standard; Bowers & Wilkins’s premium audio system is expected to be optional.

Step into the cabin of the 2024 Volvo S60 and you’ll be impressed by the overall feel and design of this Swedish moniker. The cabin looks very different from its German rival and that is something that many potential buyers will appreciate.

The Nappa leather upholstery makes for a comfortable explorer and the panoramic sunroof brings in plenty of light.

Instead of boring competitor designs, the Volvo S60 gets a beautifully crafted dashboard with integrated infotainment and a digital gauge cluster display. Crystal shifts, premium leather inserts, and metal mesh inserts on the center console also add to the premium factor.

2024 Volvo S60 Exterior

The third-generation Volvo S60 that hit the American market in 2019 is one of the best-looking luxury compact sedans in its segment.

Without the major design changes of the 2019 model, apart from the inclusion of several design packages and subtle updates to the front silhouette, the Volvo S90 2024 does attract attention when used on the road.

We admire the S60’s clean proportions combined with elegant LED headlights and taillights, a beautifully crafted front end with dual air vents and a large grille, and some dark elements. The Black Edition package offers glossy black details in the form of black 19″ alloy wheels, chevrons, and grille, all of which help it stand out well.

The 8 exterior color palettes and dual wheel designs provide the necessary customization capabilities as well.

2024 Volvo S60 Performance

The base non-hybrid Momentum trim comes with a B5 powertrain under the hood. It’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection inline-4 that comes unaided hybrid and produces 247 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

2024 Volvo S60

Power is lowered via FWD or AWD drivetrains and transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic.

0-60 MPH comes in 6.1 seconds and the car can reach a top speed of 131 MPH. The gearbox is very fast and that helps the S60 to produce better acceleration figures than the Audi A4 and Cadillac CT-5. However, the BMW 3 Series 2024 offers a faster 0-60 MPH time of 5.3 seconds.

2024 Volvo S60 Engine

The non-hybrid S60 has a 247-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired to either front or all-wheel drive. Power increases to 400 horsepower on the Recharge all-wheel-drive-only plug-in hybrid, and the most advanced Polestar Engineered Recharge is even sportier. The latter produces 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque.

Along with adaptive dampers and exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels, the Polestar edition is only available as part of a Care by Volvo subscription plan. We were impressed by the prowess of the T6 R-Design model we tested on the road in 2019, but in the end, we felt it lacked the driver-to-car-to-road connection and steering feel of the best sports sedans.

And during comparison tests against four-cylinder rivals, the more basic S60 model finished last due to its quieter driving nature versus sportier alternatives like the Alfa Romeo Giulia and the BMW 3-series. No, the S60 leans more towards luxury than sport.

2024 Volvo S60 Hybrid

The plug-in hybrid powertrain is offered with the Recharge trim of the S60. This provides better performance and acceleration than the non-hybrid B5 powertrain, along with superior gas mileage.

2024 Volvo S60

Coming with a 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged and supercharged inline-4 engine mated to an electric motor, the car produces an impressive 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque.

The powerful powertrain that comes with the S60 Recharge ensures you get the best acceleration and performance in the compact PHEV luxury sedan segment. A 0-60 MPH time of 4.3 seconds and a quarter mile time of 13.1 seconds making it faster than the BMW 330e and Lexus ES 300h. An AWD drivetrain also comes as standard.

2024 Volvo S60 MPG

The nonhybrid S60 is rated up to 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The plug-in-hybrid version has an estimated 74 MPGe and an electric drive range of just 41 miles.

Once we’ve run one on our 75-mph fuel-efficient route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, we can evaluate their real-world mpg. For more information on S60 fuel economy, visit the EPA website.

2024 Volvo S60 Price

With a light refresh, the price for the 2024 Volvo S60 will increase slightly compared to the current model. Prices for the S60 currently range from $40,995 to $43,995 (by destination). S60 refills start at $49,695.

2024 Volvo S60 Release Date

Volvo confirmed that they will announce more information about the S60 in the spring. We expect the new sedan to arrive at dealerships this fall.
