2025 Jeep Wrangler: All-Electric SUV Jeep Wrangler Exclusive Review

2025 Jeep Wrangler has talked about an electrified future, and it will make those talks a reality with an EV version of the brand’s iconic off-roader Wrangler.

Previewed by the concept car at the 2021 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah, the Wrangler EV is closer to reality than ever. The concept vehicle, called Magneto, features four chassis-mounted battery packs positioned for optimal weight distribution.

In a video released by Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, a Wrangler EV is shown to have a biometric recognition system, which uses physical cues or data, — things like facial recognition or fingerprints — to confirm the identity of the owner and allow the vehicle to be turned on and off drive.

The company suggests the electric Wrangler may also have a feature that allows it to recharge other EVs. Jeep already sells a plug-in hybrid version of the Wrangler called the 4xe, so it looks like a full-electric version won’t be around for long.

While we expect the Wrangler EV to look and feel a lot like the current JL series Wrangler, the Wrangler will serve as the start of a new generation of electric Jeeps.

2025 Jeep Wrangler Review

The Jeep Wrangler is legendary for its off-road prowess, with the ability to traverse all kinds of challenging terrain. Soon, the Wrangler will enter a new era, as this iconic SUV will offer an all-electric powertrain. Check out what we know so far about the price and specs of the 2025 Jeep Wrangler EV.

A fully electric Wrangler is happening 2025 Jeep Wrangler

A fully electric Wrangler is happening, and Jeep is so giddy with the idea, now showing two iterations of the Wrangler EV concept at each of the last two annual Easter Safari off-road pilgrimages to Moab, Utah.

Dubbed Magneto and Magneto 2.0, this electric rock basher provides a great preview of what to expect from the 2025 Jeep Wrangler EV.

Jeep has taken the Wrangler halfway to an all-electric future with its 4xe plug-in hybrid, electric (if not fully efficient) 4×4 that is proving to be hugely popular.

The all-electric Wrangler will take away the guilt — and pain at the pump — associated with pushing an off-roader around town while also offering a thrillingly quiet off-pavement experience.

2025 Jeep Wrangler Specs

In 2021, Jeep unveiled the Magneto, which is a concept version of the Wrangler EV. Magneto has a unique electric powertrain. It features a 285-hp electric motor, a six-speed manual transmission, and four battery packs.

Most likely, the Wrangler EV will have a more traditional electric powertrain, with one battery, no transmission, and one or two electric motors. Information regarding the Wrangler EV’s driving range is not yet known.

2025 Jeep Wrangler Interior

It’s unclear if the Wrangler EV will be offered in two- and four-door body styles, but we anticipate it will offer the same basic interior space and dashboard layout as the current Wrangler.

We believe that the Wrangler EV will also have removable doors and a roof for an open-air driving experience.

2025 Jeep Wrangler Redesign

Exterior and interior, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler EV will probably be very similar to the current generation Wrangler, as well as the Magneto concept.

The Magneto concept features a two-door body style, but we don’t know yet if a four-door version will be available for the Wrangler EV. For an open-air driving experience, the Wrangler EV will no doubt have a removable roof and doors.

2025 Jeep Wrangler EV

While the Wrangler EV will be released in 2025, other all-electric Jeep models will be ready before then. Recently, Jeep unveiled a teaser image of an as-yet-unnamed Jeep EV, set for early 2023.

Also, while not fully electric, Jeep already offers electrified models with the plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe.

In addition, Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, has significant electrification plans across its automotive brand portfolio. The automaker will produce many new electric vehicles in the coming years.

Later in 2023, Stellantis will make the Ram ProMaster van available and by 2025, the highly anticipated Ram 1500 EV pickup truck. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares claims that the Ram 1500 EV will beat other electric trucks for things like driving range, charging, towing, and payload.

2025 Jeep Wrangler Platform and Powertrain

The first Magneto hypothesized the all-electric Wrangler was built mostly like a gas-fed model, with the motor under the hood oriented north-south and driving, get this, a manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case.

Far from a Teslafied Wrangler, Magneto isn’t particularly powerful. In fact, its 285 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque only match the performance of the V-6-powered Wrangler.

Heck, the motor only spins up to 6,000 rpm, 600 less than the V-6’s max, with a 70 kWh battery installed, split between the quadrants of a fully enclosed lithium-ion package.

This year’s Magneto 2.0 upgrades the motor to an axial flux unit which, despite having a lower 5,250-rpm limit, brings a huge power jump (thanks to doubling the amperage and 800-volt architecture) to 625 hp and 850 lb-ft.

The image of a more powerful setup makes it to the production Wrangler EV sometime in 2025, along with more battery capacity.

Magneto’s 70-kWh setup, if any, is limited by a concept based on the shorter two-door model; we imagine a four-door—possibly with, or at least offering, an automatic transmission (or direct drive only)—would be more palatable while providing more space to store the battery which is key to providing a workable electric Jeep driving range.

Given the Wrangler’s ties to the aftermarket, we doubt Jeep will change the body, suspension, and key points much to maximize how much of the existing parts can fit. Look for blue accents, like the blue 4xe tow hook and badge, and possibly more.

2025 Jeep Wrangler Electric

The Magneto concept uses a unique EV powertrain that pairs a 285-hp electric motor with a six-speed manual transmission and four battery packs. Something like that could go into production, but we expect a more traditional EV powertrain with one or more electric motors, no transmission, and a single battery pack.
